Arto,
Gosh, I don't know if taking the original Savage seat apart is a wise thing to do or not. One of my reasons for covering over the top of it was to save and protect the factory design. As for having enough cover material to allow for extra padding and still have enough overlap to restaple, I think that probably is unique to each Savage seat. You asked what kind of staples I used, the everyday common staple is to thin and weak to go through the plastic form the seat is built on. The heavy guage staples I use to reinforce the corners of picture frames for my artwork works perfectly. Hope this is helpful, good luck Arto.
